About the Course
The Academic Writing Foundations Class is an eight-session, progressive program designed to strengthen students’ fundamental skills in high-level English writing and critical thinking. This program is open to beginner and intermediate writers (Grades 6–9) who struggle with the fear of the blank page, and it is specially tailored for students who want to build a rock-solid foundation in sentence architecture, paragraph flow, and analytical essay drafting.
Throughout the eight classes, participants will learn essential components of global writing, including mindmapping, precision vocabulary upgrades, sentence diagnostics, logical transitions, and applying philosophical lenses (such as the Burnt Toast Theory) to real-world topics. During the final classes, all students will apply these skills in a complete editorial process where they proofread, format, and assemble a polished digital portfolio, officially submitting their final essay for publication consideration.
By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
- Make a mindmap, organize, and outline complex thoughts using structured ideation techniques before drafting a single paragraph.
- Eliminate repetitive, weak words by utilizing a curated bank of active verbs, precise academic terms, and strong sentence structures.
- Eliminate choppy, robotic writing by applying logical connectors and transition categories (Time, Contrast, Addition) for effortless flow.
- Elevate basic topics into deep, analytical arguments by applying abstract concepts (such as the Burnt Toast Theory and Butterfly Effect).
- Apply formal proofreading checklists to refine their prose, curate a polished digital portfolio, and submit an essay ready for official publication consideration.
