Course Overview

Introduction to Math Olympiad training

The demand for Math Olympiad training has grown rapidly across Indonesia. Many schools already feature their own math clubs, and Indonesian parents are increasingly interested in enrolling their children in prestigious national and international competitions (such as SASMO, OSN, or AMC) that offer global exposure and strengthen their academic CVs.

About SASMO

The Singapore & Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) is one of Asia’s largest and most recognized mathematics competitions. Established in 2006, SASMO challenges students to apply mathematical knowledge, logical reasoning, and higher-order thinking skills beyond the regular school curriculum.

SASMO is open to students from Grade 1 through Grade 12. Students are entered according to their school grade/level.Because the questions include both school-based and challenging thinking problems, SASMO can be a good stepping stone for students who want to get their feet into math competitions but not yet ready for extremely difficult Olympiad competitions.

About SMC

The Singapore Mathematics Challenge (SMC) is an international mathematics competition organized by SIMCC. It is generally considered to be accessible to students who have no previous experience writing math competitions. SMC is designed to strengthen mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills while providing students with opportunities to gain international recognition through awards and compete with students from different countries. It also helps students build a stronger academic and competition portfolio while preparing them for higher-level mathematics competitions.

SMC is open to students from Grade 1 to Grade 10/11. Students are entered according to their school grade/level. Since it is usually held in September, which is the beginning of a new school year in Indonesia, students are allowed to register for their previous year grade.

About the Course

The Math Olympiad Prep Class is a 15-session program designed to prepare students to write for Primary level SASMO (Singapore & Asian Schools Math Olympiad) and SMC (Singapore Math Competition). There will be 2 cohorts running each year, one running from October-March is designed to prepare students for SASMO. The other one will run from April-September, designed to prepare students for SMC.

The program is open to first-time and beginner-level Math contest takers who want a solid understanding of what mathematical contests are and want to build a strong foundation in problem-solving, logical thinking and competitive mathematics. It is aimed towards students who would like to expand their math knowledge beyond their school math materials.

By the end of the program,  participants will be able to:

  • Decode Complex Word Problems: Students will confidently extract data from wordy, multi-step math problems without getting confused by advanced competition vocabulary.
  • Master Advanced Singapore Heuristics: Students will automatically deploy specialized strategies—such as Visual Bar Modeling, the Assumption Method, and the Gap Method—to bypass variables and solve algebra-level questions visually.
  • Execute Spatial & Logical Logic: Students will easily solve non-routine spatial problems (like 3D cube counts) and matrix elimination grids common in SASMO Section A.
  • Demonstrate Exam Pacing & Strategy: Students will know exactly how to manage a 90-minute countdown clock, prioritize easy questions, and utilize tactical risk assessment (such as knowing when to leave an answer blank to avoid the -1 penalty in SASMO).
